Raw output is ideally suited in a system that
embeds a separate imaging signal processor or performs image processing
in software on a host device.
The raw image link can be either parallel or serial. While parallel
is widely available in many applications from digital still cameras
to mobile phones and PDAs, serial is better suited when small
form factor or low EMI are desired. STMicroelectronics has pioneered
standardization of camera serial interfaces and co-developed the
SMIA specification.
