MEMS
evaluation boards - new application support tools featuring
micro-electro-mechanical systems
MEMS exploit the mechanical properties
of silicon to integrate mechanical structures capable
of sensing vibration, displacement and acceleration.
This new technology opens the door to a new generation
of compact, cost-effective and high-performance
sensors suitable for a wide range of applications. In
order to support MEMS product evaluation, ST has
developed a comprehensive set of evaluation boards,
available for ordering online. More

EMIF03-SIM02M8
- Market's first SIM card EMI filter in uQFN
The EMIF03-SIM02M8 provides high level 15
kV ESD and high EMI attenuation at mobile frequencies.
Its low line capacitance complies with high-speed data
communication. With its robust 1.5 x 1.7 mm uQFN package,
the EMIF03-SIM02M8 is ideally suited for use in mobile
phone SIM card applications where access to a removable
memory card can create mechanical constraints. More

| STw5200
- 24-bit Audio DAC boost audio quality to hi-fi level
The STw5200 is a very high-performance 24-bit
audio DAC (digital-to-analog converter) that offers
103dB dynamic range across the entire audio path. Aimed
at the mobile music market, the new STw5200 is available
in small TFBGA and VFQFPN packages, and soon, in a tiny
2.6 x 2.6mm WLCSP. Simplifying the system design, the
DAC can be directly connected to the battery, and drives
a headset without coupling capacitor thanks to its true-ground
headset amplifier. The new DAC, offering Line and Headset
outputs, meets the increasing demand for higher audio
quality from mobile music applications and is ideal
for any mobile phone platform where audio quality needs
to be boosted to a Hi-Fi level. More

STM8A
8-bit Microcontrollers for Automotive
STMicroelectronics introduces the STM8A,
a new product line of 8-bit Flash microcontrollers dedicated
to the specific needs of automotive applications. These
modular products offer true data EEPROM, and software
and pin-out compatibility, for a program memory size
from 8 Kbytes up to 256 Kbytes and 20 to 128-pin packages.
All devices operate at 3 V to 5.5 V in the extended
temperature range up to 145 oC. More

| STTS424
- JEDEC JC42.4 compliant, low-power temperature sensors
for memory modules
The STTS424 sensors is used on DDR3 DIMM modules
to take advantage of the temperature monitoring features
of Intel's latest PC chipsets. Drawing just 100
uA at 2.7 to 3.6V, it can sense ambient temperature from
-40 oC to +125 oC with up to +/1 oC accuracy and 0.25
oC resolution. An EVENT pin can be configured to activate
when reaching a given temperature threshold. The STTS4224E02
version includes a 2-Kbit Serial Presence Detect EEPROM
for storing the DIMM's operating parameters in accordance
with JEDEC requirements. These 2-Wire I2C/SMBus-compatible
devices are available in a tiny DFN8 and TDFN8 package.

phone cameras get smaller and smarter with new imaging
single-chip sensor
St's VD6725 is a 1/5-inch optical-format
imaging sensor, with an active pixel array of 1600 x
1200 (UXGA), a high-performance image processor and
camera control functions on a single chip. The market's
smallest device, the VD6725 fits in phone camera modules
smaller than 6 x 6 x 3.8 mm thanks to its 1.75-micron
pixel design and St's advanced sensor architecture.
Available in St's TSV (Through Silicon Via) wafer-level
package, the VD6725 can be used in a wide range of portable
devices such as mobile phones, laptop cameras, PDAs
and mobile gaming platforms. More

| ST1S12
- 0.7 A, 1.7 MHz high-efficiency, full PWM, synchronous
step-down DC-DC converter
The ST1S12 represents a cost effective means
of replacing a medium power (0.7 A max) linear regulator
with a more efficient high-frequency (1.7 MHz full PWM)
DC-DC converter. The full PWM topology of ST1S12 provides
a constant ripple at any load, allowing it to be used
in noise-sensitive applications, such as digital cores
and battery-powered devices. It is housed in the tiny
TSOT23-5L package. More
