I have been looking for a replacement for an aging SH-1 in our design for quite some time, now. Could anyone here give me an approximation of ST40(industrial temperature) pricing so that I might know if it's worth looking into? Please?

ST40RA166XH6 or ST40RA150XH6 would be the model; I don't think that we have any chance to find someone who actually sells the GX1 model anywhere. GX1 would probably(seen only press release, haven't found a datasheet) be more suitable, though, if there is an industrial temperature version. The evaluation board would be whichever we can first get our hands on; it doesn't really matter and it's an one-time expense so its pricing is not terribly important.

Hmm, perhaps I should just try asking the local distributor again. They haven't even hear of ST40 last time I tried, though.

the attached file will give you an idea about the price of the complete development kit for the ST40RA Evaluation Board.
I ll contact the sales for more details on prices.

Thank you. You wouldn't have any info on actual chip prices, would you? I need to see what kind of prices to expect from retailers and if we should just go PowerPC; Motorola and IBM at least make some very nice chips with integrated peripherals. They tend to be on the pricey side or have unsuitable peripheral configuration, though. ST40RA looks nice; fast memory interface and lots of IO to pump data in and out. It's kind of like Hitachi 7750 done right. I think we still have a devel board for that piece of *censored* somewhere... If it's terribly expensive it's out though; it needs a lot of external peripherals.

Hi TeMP.
Ballpark info: From what I hear for the ST40RA166XH6, it's est $20+ in qty < 100 and projected $12 in qty 100k. Wish I could be more accurate, but you know how it goes.

Thank you DaveB.
That pricing seems ... tolerable. Now, I just wish that our distributor wasn't stuck in the dark ages. And that they had fixed the braindead INTC of SH7750 in ST40. Grumble.
