Currently using L6208 to drive my stepper motor and performing microstepping at 16 microsteps per full step. I observed from my scope captures that running from 400Hz to 3200Hz, the current profile starts look less sinusoidal. Beside the common knowledge that running at higher step rates, the current through the winding will not be able to reach enough time to reach the desired current value. Are there other reasons such as core losses that results in the current profile looking so "distorted"?
