Hi, i have ordered a USB Controller with mcu in the form of ST72F652.

I noticed in a application note, called "developing a st7265x mass storage application" (8367.pdf), that there are some software modules provided by ST, mainly a module called "USB Mass Storage Layer" and a module called "Media Access layer".
I cant find any of these modules anywhere, so im wondering if they come with the ordered components. The components i have ordered are:
ST7265X-EVAL/PFD (USB Controller + development kit)
ST72F652 (USB CONTROLLER)
ST7MDTU5-EPB/ (Single Programmer)

Also i have another question, i took a brief look at a pdf for stvd7 and i couldnt find the ST7265 in the list of supported mcu's from the simulator supported mcu list. Is there an update/addon for stvd7 or is it included in one of the components i ordered?

You should be able to find the software you need on this page:
http://www.stmcu.com/modules.php?name=mcu&file=familiesdocs&FAM=19#Software Microcontrollers

keep also a eye on those 2 USB applications dedicated fora:

    * http://www.stmcu.com/forumsid-8.html
    * http://www.stmcu.com/forumsid-9.html

not much discussion yet but they are dedicated to the kind of application you are talking about.

Regarding the simulator, it does not simulate the USB yet. That make it useless for USB debugging. But you can still use it for other routine validation.
You may want to buy an emulator, or if you are on a budget, I recommand the softec inDART-ST7F/6XX tool as a low cost tool (inDART ST7F6XX)

Ok, thx for the answer.
i looked thru the page, and found some interesting things. However i still need a compiler, do you think ST will ship a compiler with the components i've ordered, or will i have to buy one seperately?.

in the readme.txt for the SW lib 5.1 it says
"Then, in case of a development in C language you need to use the
C Tool Chain provided by Hiware (demo version in the STMCU cdrom) or
the Hiware web site."

I cant find this website, since i dont want to waste time waiting for my things to arrive, does anyone know where i can get the, C Tool Chain, from Hiware?.

Looking at ST tools offering, it looks like that ST7 C compilers are sold separately. Indeed, all ST7 C compilers have been developped by 3rd parties, Metrowerks and Cosmic, so you will have to contact them directly.
For 3rd parties information and web site links, go to the stmcu.com Home page and select 3rd Parties Directory. This the page you are looking for. Or if you prefer,
- Metrowerks : http://www.metrowerks.com/
- Cosmic : http://www.cosmic-software.com/

Hiware has been bought 2 years ago by Metrowerks so all software development tools have been renamed with the Metrowerks logo on it.
For instance, I remember that Hiware interface used to be called Panta. It has now been integrated into Metroverks' Code Warrior.
www.hiware.com used to direct you to http://www.metrowerks.com but it looks like the link has finally been removed and the Hiware site shut down.

Regards,

Jojo

Andy, Hiware was taken over by Metrowerks. Go to the Search link on this site and type "metrowerks" . This should get you started. A demo of their compiler/linker is right there waiting for you to play with it.

Hi, the "USB Mass Storage Layer" and a module called "Media Access layer" you are talking about are two modules part of the PFD firmware. This firmware is not available on this web site as you need to sign an agreement form to get it (ST7265x Mass Storage Firmware Licence Agreement ). Just contact your local ST Sales Representative.

Well, the wise guy that I am excluded .exe files without thinking that we had quite a few available for download.
Sorry about that. The problem is fixed.

why bother about Metroworks? The Metroworks demo comes with codesize limited version unusable for for serious project translation. Order the ST demo of www.cosmic-software.com what comes without code limitation but time limitation. For me it seems the Cosmic optimization is a little better becouse they do less operations with the stack. And always save your complete registry before any time limited demo installation and experiments with the PC RTC....

Yes you are right, i didnt notice the 8k limitation of the metrowerks demo before last week. In response i wrote to metrowerks to inquire about the price for their Codewarrior for st7, but they havent responded.
